at Politecnico di Milano

Welcome to my academic webpage.

My research combines structural mechanics, experimentation, structural design, standardisation and technology transfer, with particular emphasis on structural connections and fastening systems, reinforced concrete, timber and hybrid structures, fire and seismic engineering, sustainability and circular construction.

A central objective of my work is to identify common physical principles governing structural behaviour across different materials, technologies and scales, and to translate those principles into practical design methods, qualification procedures and engineering standards.

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.

Standards and Professional Activities
Research should not remain confined to academia.

A substantial part of my activity is devoted to transferring scientific results into structural standards, qualification procedures and engineering practice through active participation in Eurocodes, EOTA, fib and ACI committees.

Teaching

My teaching philosophy is based on a simple principle:

Students should understand what a structure is physically doing before approaching it as a set of calculations.

Teaching activities span Civil Engineering and Architecture, ranging from structural design fundamentals to specialised courses on connections, fastening systems and sustainable structures.

Collaboration and Opportunities

I welcome enquiries from MSc students, PhD candidates, visiting researchers, industrial partners and infrastructure owners interested in collaborative research, technology transfer and innovation in structural engineering.

Please refer to the Opportunities page for further information.
